Brand in a Day | Cake Therapy

 
 

I had the pleasure of working on a Brand in a Day design for Cake Therapy, an online cake decorating education platform created by Andrea of Bluebird Sweets.


Andrea happens to be a past branding client from 2021, and it’s been incredibly fun to watch Andrea grow as a business owner as she finds new areas to thrive, including her passion for teaching others how to decorate cakes and monetizing that passion.

Cake Therapy is the result – a new platform where courses, tutorials, product recommendations, and more are all shared to help other cake decorators grow in skills and knowledge. 

Of course, we started out the process with strategy; even though this is a sister brand to Bluebird Sweets, we needed to strategize for a new type of audience to solve different problems. This was the perfect time to focus on their specific needs and how Andrea can best connect with them through this new brand. I loved the name Cake Therapy as it implies a safe, encouraging, and uplifting environment to build skills and confidence in Andrea’s students. Andrea’s background in past education in mental health also made the name so fitting as she helps “cakers” learn and grow. 

Cake Therapy’s mission statement is as follows: We help bakers grow their confidence in their skills by providing educational content that encourages and teaches for all levels of expertise, from home bakers to experts. 

Andrea wanted to create a value-packed experience that was also trustworthy and empowering while remaining relatable and humorous. The course is filled with solutions as well as real life fumbles and how she works through the ups and downs. 

When creating the designs, I aimed for subtle details to encourage an approachable feeling that isn’t overwhelming and distracting from the Cake Therapy message. The grounded colors invite a safe feeling but the pops of playfulness brighten things up so it’s still a fun and enjoyable experience. The color palette has a bold, deep green (almost black sometimes), but when paired with the marigold and tropical teal colors there is a playful contrast. The hints of mint, cream, and orange give an enthusiastic energy, resulting in a brand that feels grounded and reassuring with playful and creative vibes.
